Bringing your pet home to Toronto

Coming home after the winter, or moving back to Canada for good? We collect your pet at your door in Florida and deliver them to your door in Toronto or the GTA.

We plan the safest way for your pet, based on the breed, age, the weather and your dates, and we tell you which papers Canada asks for before your pet comes home.

You can travel on the same day or on a different day. Many owners send their pet once the new home is ready, so the pet arrives to a calm house.

What your pet needs to come back into Canada

Entering Canada (CFIA rules)

  • Dogs 3 months and older: a valid rabies vaccination certificate, in English or French, from a licensed vet, that clearly identifies the dog and shows a current rabies vaccination.
  • Cats 3 months and older: a vet certificate, in English or French, that identifies the cat and shows a current rabies vaccination.
  • Young dogs: there are other rules for young dogs travelling without their owner. Ask us and we check them for your pet.
  • No quarantine: pet dogs and cats are not quarantined when they arrive.

If your pet's rabies vaccine runs out while you are in Florida, book a booster with a local vet before the move and keep the new certificate. See moving a pet between Canada and the US for the full rules in both directions.

When to bring a pet home from Florida

  • Most snowbirds come home between March and May, before the summer heat in Florida.
  • Summer is hot and humid, so in summer we plan the move around the heat of the day.
  • Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. If a storm comes near, we may move the date to keep your pet safe, and we tell you as early as we can.
  • Toronto can still be cold in early spring. Bring a coat for a short-haired dog for the first walks.

Book early: the paperwork takes a few weeks, and fall and spring are the busy seasons on this route.

Pickup across Florida, delivery in Toronto

We deliver anywhere in Toronto, including Downtown, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, East York, and across the GTA: Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill. Settling in Toronto

  • Toronto summers are hot and humid and winters bring snow and road salt. Wipe paws after winter walks.
  • The City of Toronto requires a licence for dogs and cats. Mississauga, Brampton and the other GTA cities have their own rules.
  • Renting in Ontario: a lease cannot ban pets, and landlords cannot charge a pet deposit. A landlord can still apply to evict if a pet causes real problems, or if condo rules ban pets.
  • Update the address and phone number on your pet's microchip record.

How to help your pet settle in

Florida to Toronto: questions

How much does pet transport from Florida to Toronto cost?
It depends on the two addresses, your date, how many pets travel and what your pet needs. Fill in the form and we send your quote by email once it is ready, with a list of what is included.
How long does the move take?
It depends on your pet, your dates and the paperwork. Your quote gives you the pickup day and the delivery day, and we keep you updated until your pet is home.
What does my pet need to come back into Canada?
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) asks for a rabies vaccination certificate for dogs 3 months and older, and a vet certificate showing a current rabies vaccination for cats 3 months and older. The certificate must be in English or French and clearly identify your pet. Pet dogs and cats are not quarantined. See the CFIA pet import tool.
My pet's rabies vaccine runs out while we are in Florida. What do I do?
Book a booster with a vet in Florida before the move, and keep the new certificate. Canada asks for a current rabies vaccination when your pet comes back, so check the date early.
Where in Florida can you pick up?
At your door anywhere in Florida, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando and Jacksonville.
Do you handle customs?
Yes. We arrange customs clearance for your pet as part of the move and tell you which papers we need from you. Border officials make the final decision on every pet.
Can I ride along with my pet?
No. Pets only in our vehicles. You travel separately, and you or an adult you name meets your pet at the new home.
Does my pet travel in a crate?
It depends on the pet and the trip. We tell you in your quote. If your pet needs a crate and you do not have one, we can supply it.
My dog is a snub-nosed breed. Can you move them?
Yes. Pugs, French bulldogs, Persian cats and other snub-nosed breeds can move with us. We plan the safest way for them and keep them out of the heat.
