Toronto to Florida Pet Transport

We move dogs and cats door to door from Toronto and the GTA to Florida: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Naples, Fort Myers and anywhere else in the state. We plan the safest way for your pet and look after the border paperwork with you. Pets only: you travel separately.

Moving your pet to Florida

Moving to Florida, or heading south for the winter? Your pet does not have to sit through a long trip in your car. We collect your pet at your door in the Toronto area and deliver them to your door in Florida.

We plan the safest way for your pet, based on the breed, age, the weather and your dates. Before the move, we tell you exactly which papers your pet needs for the US and for Florida, and when to see your vet.

You can travel on the same day or on a different day. Many owners send their pet once the new home is ready, so the pet arrives to a calm house.

What your pet needs for the US and Florida

Entering the US (CDC rules)

  • Dogs: at least 6 months old, a microchip that a universal scanner can read, and a CDC Dog Import Form receipt. The form is free and online, and we help you fill it in. The dog must look healthy on arrival.
  • Cats: the CDC asks only that cats look healthy on arrival. It does not ask for a rabies certificate, but Florida does (below).

This is for pets that have only been in Canada or the US in the last 6 months. If your dog has been somewhere else, tell us and we check what applies.

Entering Florida

  • A health certificate from a vet (Florida calls it an Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection), issued no more than 30 days before your pet arrives. Florida waives it only for pets travelling with their owner, so a pet moving with us needs one.
  • A current rabies vaccination for dogs and cats 3 months and older, with proof from a licensed vet.

We tell you when to book your vet so the certificate is still valid on arrival. See moving a pet between Canada and the US for the full rules in both directions.

When to move a pet to Florida

  • Fall and winter are the easiest time to move a pet to Florida: cooler days, and most snowbirds head south from late October to December.
  • Summer is hot and humid, so in summer we plan the move around the heat of the day.
  • Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. If a storm comes near, we may move the date to keep your pet safe, and we tell you as early as we can.

Book early: the paperwork takes a few weeks, and fall and spring are the busy seasons on this route.

Pickup in Toronto, delivery across Florida

We pick up anywhere in Toronto, including Downtown, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, East York, and across the GTA: Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill. We also cover Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Caledon, King, Aurora, Newmarket, Whitchurch-Stouffville and nearby towns. Further away in Canada? Ask us.

We deliver to your door anywhere in Florida, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando and Jacksonville.

Pet licences in Florida

Most Florida counties ask for a local pet licence or tag once your pet lives there, tied to the rabies vaccination. For example:

  • Miami-Dade County: dogs 4 months and older need a county dog licence and a rabies vaccination.
  • Broward County (Fort Lauderdale): dogs and cats 4 months and older must be registered and wear a county tag, which needs a current rabies certificate.
  • Palm Beach County: dogs and cats 4 months and older need a current rabies vaccination and a county licence tag.
  • Hillsborough County (Tampa): dogs, cats and ferrets 4 months and older that live in the county need a pet registration tag, which needs proof of rabies vaccination.

Check your own county's rules after you arrive. Your new vet can usually sell you the tag.

Settling in Florida

  • Many Florida condos and homeowner associations limit the number, size or breed of pets. Check your building or community rules before your pet arrives.
  • Pavement and sand get very hot. Walk your dog early in the morning or in the evening, and never leave a pet in a parked car.
  • Book a visit with a Florida vet in the first few weeks and bring your pet's records, including the rabies certificate.
  • Update the address and phone number on your pet's microchip record.

How to help your pet settle in

Toronto to Florida: questions

How much does pet transport from Toronto to Florida cost?
It depends on the two addresses, your date, how many pets travel and what your pet needs. Fill in the form and we send your quote by email within one business day, with a list of what is included.
How long does the move take?
It depends on your pet, your dates and the paperwork. Your quote gives you the pickup day and the delivery day, and we keep you updated until your pet is home.
Does my pet need a health certificate to enter Florida?
Yes, when the pet travels without you. Florida asks for a vet health certificate (an Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection) issued no more than 30 days before arrival, and waives it only for pets travelling with their owner. Dogs and cats 3 months and older also need a current rabies vaccination. See the Florida Department of Agriculture page. We tell you what your vet needs to write and when.
Do you deliver to Miami?
Yes. We deliver to your door in Miami and across Miami-Dade, and to homes across Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando and Jacksonville.
Can you move my pet to Florida for the winter and back in the spring?
Yes. Tell us both dates and we plan both trips: south in the fall and home in the spring. See snowbird pet transport.
What about hurricane season?
Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. We watch the forecast before every Florida move. If a storm comes near, we may move the date to keep your pet safe, and we tell you as early as we can.
Do you handle customs?
Yes. We arrange customs clearance for your pet as part of the move and tell you which papers we need from you. Border officials make the final decision on every pet.
Can a puppy under 6 months move to the US?
The CDC says dogs must be at least 6 months old when they enter the US, and it makes exceptions only with its own written approval, given in advance. If your puppy is younger, ask us before you make plans, and we look at your case.
Can I ride along with my pet?
No. Pets only in our vehicles. You travel separately, and you or an adult you name meets your pet at the new home.
Does my pet travel in a crate?
It depends on the pet and the trip. We tell you in your quote. If your pet needs a crate and you do not have one, we can supply it.
My dog is a snub-nosed breed. Can you move them?
Yes. Pugs, French bulldogs, Persian cats and other snub-nosed breeds can move with us. We plan the safest way for them and keep them out of the heat.
